An enraged group of locals went berserk inside the hospital complex and set fire to a portion of the building in presence of police demanding arrest of Dr Baruah who was away in Bangalore.

We hereby appeal to the people of Assam not to get confused by this rumour till we clarify our stand on holding of such dialogue.'
A source in the earthquake observation centre at North East Institute of Science and Tenchnology (NEIST) of the CSIR located at Jorhat in Assam informed that the quake was measured at 4.7 on the Richter scale though initial reports put it at 6.3 on the scale.

The All Asom Koch Rajbongshi Students' Union activists stopped the bus, which was traveling from Cooch Behar in West Bengal to Assam's North Lakhimpur, on National Highway 31 near Golakganj late on Friday. The activists pelted stones at the private bus, hurled two petrol bombs and locked the doors of the burning vehicle with the passengers inside, Mahanta said. The injured said they broke the front windshield and window panes to get out of the burning bus.
A number of sportspersons participating in the games were earlier received at the station, City Additional Superintendent of Police Rajen Singh said.
The three, when asked to stop on by a CISF patrol team, did not do so and were fired upon.
